Stories from the Troubles 15/09/25

Today, 15th September 2025, I made a video recording of the story of a victim of the Northern Ireland Troubles, to be shown at a special event at the Segoe Hotel in Portadown, County Armagh, on 10th October 2025. Margaret Thompson will be part of a line-up of special guests on that evening, both live and by video. https://truthrevealedseries.com/etn/events/

50 years ago, the IRA ambushed and murdered Margaret’s young husband, Gerald, as well as two of his dog-breeder friends, John Preshaw and Alfred Doyle, as they returned from Cork, in the Republic of Ireland, where they were competing at a dog show. Aside from his work as an electrician, Gerard’s life revolved around his family and his show dogs. He competed at shows in the UK and Ireland, including Crufts, with his prize-winning breed. For no known reason, the car Gerald was driving was ambushed as they crossed the border from the Republic into Northern Ireland. All three died in a hail of bullets. Margaret was left without a husband, and three young children were left without their father. No one has ever been brought to account for her husband’s murder.

We are working our way through a number of true stories from the Troubles. These are being administered through Maurice Wylie Media. If you have a story that you’d be happy for us to record and put in the public domain, either by print, audio or video, then please contact info@mauricewyliemedia.com to explore possibilities.
